IPL: Indian Premiere League

The Indian Premier League is a professional Twenty20 cricket league that was founded in 2007 by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The league was launched with the aim of bringing together the best cricket talent from India and around the world to play in a high-profile tournament that would capture the imagination of cricket fans worldwide.

The IPL is played annually between April and May, typically lasting for nearly 2 months. It features 10 teams representing different Indian cities, each of which is owned by a franchise and each franchise has its own home condition. The franchises are made up of a mix of Indian and international owners, and are sold through auction that takes place before the start of each IPL season.

In the past, the IPL has followed a round-robin and knockout format. Each team plays a total of 14 matches, seven of which are played at their home ground and seven at the grounds of other teams. The top four teams in the standings at the end of the group stage qualify for the playoffs, which consist of two qualifier matches, an eliminator, and a final. The final match is typically played at a neutral venue.

One of the key features of the IPL is the presence of international cricket stars who play for the different teams. Some of the world's best cricketers, including the likes of MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, Rohit Sharma, Steve Smith, David Warner, and Chris Gayle, have participated in the IPL over the years.
